Apple trying to get administration approval to buy Chinese RAM

Why not? Apple will likely apply the same quality control specifications to the manufacturer as it does with existing suppliers. This might be necessary to signal a downward pressure on existing exorbitant pricing for memory. If Apple does this, others will too!

Yeah the only arguments I can think of not to do this are all about protectionism. I don’t exactly agree with china’s government structures but neither do I with the United States these days. As far as I can tell this would just increase competition and benefit consumers

Tim Apple didn't gift Trump with this for nothing. You want anything from him you must bend the knee and that's that.

Apple, don’t do that.
I too am curious why you think they shouldn't. Technical reasons, political, or something else?

I can imagine a nightmare scenario where 10-15 years down the line China has a stranglehold on RAM. Even so it's not clear that trying to freeze them out now has any chance whatsoever of preventing that.

I can see where some US government agencies involved in national security related projects requiring their suppliers of equipment to not use Chinese RAM.
