This should be a handy feature, I mean basic math skills not withstanding and added convenience.

I was going to comment on this rumor, but I can’t condone the inability for people to do simple math.

I once was waiting with my wife at a cash register line in Macy’s, and the customer in front of us and the cashier were trying to estimate what a 15% discount would be. They went back and forth for several minutes before I got pissed off and just blurted out the amount. They looked at me like I was performing an impossible magic trick.

Learn math! Put the AI math machine away! *Shakes fist at sky*

My wife is a math wiz and always the one to figure it all out when we do group outings and we're all happy to let her do it. 25 years as a head bookkeeper has served her well.

It all started with calculators in the classrooms in grade school. They stopped teaching how to do it in your head, so it's all too uncommon now. :(

I'd probably need a few seconds to do it in my head, but I'd at least do the easy trick of "shift decimal point, then add half of that".

I think part of it is that by the time I was in high school, the trend was veering away from students being taught such tricks, or needing to work it out themselves.

That’s literally all i did. Ten percent, plus half that.

No wonder they print suggested tips on restaurant receipts now, too. (p.s.: wth is with 22% suggestion?)

22%? Where do you live. Here it’s 20, 25 and 30.

I do 20 on the total, not pre-tax. Move the point over and double it.

I also like to carry $2 bills to screw with Millennials. 😂

In the bay area i see a lot of 17, 20, 22. I grew up with 15 pre-tax being the rule. Now I just throw my hands up and hit the “i guess they don’t pay anybody living wages anymore” button

Love it when you order food to go and they hit you with those percentages, it's like all you did was turn around and grab my bag of food and put it on the counter.
