The device is weirdly described as involving "mechanical elements that can move on their own" and the Bloomberg report includes the detail that the device is designed to "feel like a companion and become a physical manifestation of OpenAI’s ChatGPT."

OpenAI’s first foray into hardware devices is reported to be a mobile smart speaker with integrated AI capabilities that can sync with ChatGPT and provide other home AI services.

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the device — which is still currently under development — is designed to be screen-free and is being pitched internally as a “humanlike AI companion that lives in the home.”

Agreed, or at least way too early for something like this to be practical. You have to wonder what the next generation holds though, I still have hope for glasses once Apple gets into the game.

There are rumors of apple glasses at WWDC next year. Probably no displays, and you won’t be able to access images from the cameras (for privacy). But who knows.

Apple also has their “homepod” thing with display coming very soon, supposedly.
 
I don't like the idea that it can move. Sounds very creepy.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing what Apple's upcoming home hub with a display is about. Supposedly it will be released between October and early next year (according to MR/Gurman). My current home automation/cameras setup is getting a little long in the tooth (powered by a 2019 Intel MacMini 24/7 and apps, various wireless sensors/switches, and wired cameras).

As much as I don't like the power draw on the Intel MacMini running 24/7 for seven years, It has been rock solid in terms of reliability and has never needed a re-boot (other than from PG&E power outages). Moving to a controller powered by an AS CPU will be nice and probably noticeable on my monthly electric bill.
