I thought so, too. But look diagonally up and to the left (in the first photo) and you will see another foot, pointed to the right. That becomes the new guy. The foot you are thinking of is off-screen now, because of how I rotated the photo.

I'm not seeing that. Looks to me like the real guy's foot is pointing toward the right, and that's the same way the AI-generated guy is facing.
 
IMO these tools do nothing but take the humanity out of photos, imagine looking back at your childhood photos and having half the shit that was in your room "removed" for the sake of art or whatever, or having faces and surroundings into something they're not. These are all part of the memory, an actual snapshot in time in all its glory for better or worse. May as well just tell AI to generate the photo you want.

I suppose it comes down to the purpose of photos. I’m like you - I have a NAS full of terabytes of photos, mostly intended to document life and to give to my kid someday when she wants to look back at her life or her parents’ lives. She’s gotten into the same habit, adding directories full of photos she’s taken herself with the sony rx100 i handed down to her.

But I also take some photos with the intention that they are “art.” And those are the ones that I end up running through lightroom or photoshop, framing them or putting them in photobooks. I could see maybe using these features if I missed the shot for some reason. Though I can’t really think of where I would use the reframing thing where you can change the orientation of the subject. And mostly when I take those kinds of photos they aren’t moving subjects - buildings, graffiti, etc. - so not sure how I would miss the shot in the first place.

To be honest, the only time I really have done anything major was when my wife and her sister wanted a photo to blow up and have at their mom’s funeral, and the photo they really wanted to use had another person in it, so I removed that person in photoshop. Everything else is mostly cropping and editing color curves or the like.

I can see where if you are a street photographer shooting from the hip with a Ricoh GR or something you might get some benefit from reframing, I guess.
