I checked my indexing progress after I installed beta 2. Now it says PipelineCompletness: not showing instead of the previous 82%. IDK if this means that it completed at some point or it's just not doing anything. Still showing Joined Waitlist for the Siri AI beta.

The “not showing” thing appears to be Apple’s way of discouraging us from monitoring completeness.

It was only 74% last I checked. Maybe they changed the algorithm in Beta 2 so it wasn't so timely?

I used console to check if it was running in the background without a dialog and the same error lines that Roller mentioned "PipelineCompleteness: not showing, showOverallPercentage: false"

They likely had too many people messaging in on the indexing - better to just hide it so people can't ask.

I've been waiting to get Siri AI on my iPad. Although I was supposed to get a notice when it was available, I just checked and it was there. From brief testing, I'm impressed. I was filling out a COVID form that asked about prior vaccinations, and Siri was able to answer questions like "when was I last vaccinated for shingles?" I think it's going to be very useful to find stuff like this.

Definitely. I’m impressed that if finds ways I didn’t think of to get answers. Like when it figured out how long I’ve had my cat by parsing the text of an old voicemail from the vet. I never would have thought to check for voicemails from the vet.

Apparently. I don’t delete voicemails unless they are spam. Why bother? I guess if my carrier told me my mailbox was full then I’d have to clean things up…

My phone (not an iPhone) apparently automatically cleans my voicemailbox in the process of downloading and transcribing it, so, when I delete a voicemail, I am just removing from my phone.

I've been trying out developer beta 2 for my Apple Vision Pro (Apple doesn't offer a public beta). Like the iPadOS beta, it's surprisingly stable. I've only encountered a few minor bugs so far. Among other benefits, the update lets me use any panoramic photo as an environment. The scenes are clipped at the top and bottom, but depending on the original capture, the effect is usually expansive enough to fill my field of view. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the software does spatial conversion on the photo, so objects in the foreground appear to move relative to the background as you shift perspective. Obviously, it's not as immersive as Apple's environments, but it's quite good. You can now view panos spatially in the Photos app too. Of all the image and video formats, they do the most to make me feel like I'm back in the scene.

Apple also added an environment for Thórsmörk, Iceland. It puts you in a snowy location next to a stream. I usually don't like the nighttime versions, but this one is an exception - stars, a full moon, and changing auroras are visible in the sky.

I also like the updates to Mac Virtual Display, which I use for my work. If my Mac is running and unlocked, a new widget lets me activate it with one gesture, so I no longer have to redo the setup after taking the headset off for a bit.

I continue to be impressed. I just asked Siri about the last time I visited the UK, and it responded with details that it must have gleaned from my calendar. It would probably be even more helpful on my Mac. I archive most emails there, so that would be another place for Siri to search.

My wife often asks me for information that I sent her. I usually tell her to find the email or message, but this will make it much easier for her.

I frequently read comments from people who say they’ll have nothing to do with AI on Apple devices (especially on MR), but in this case they’d be shortchanging themselves.

And Apple is EXACTLY right to focus their AI on small, real world wins, instead of complete agentic processes or deepfake creation. If people can use the new Siri AI to find things they actually need that are just buried on their phones, it will be popular.

Yesterday siri cross-referenced an old text message with a very old email to remind me of what year something happened. It’s impressive for that kind of stuff.
