WWDC 2026

Checked again this morning - still stuck at 40%, so I suspect it may actually be stuck....had it on the charger most of the last 24 hours - it should have moved forward. Sending in a feedback report.

I am still at 82%. So either stuck, or the “%” is calculated in a way that doesn’t actually take into account the time a given “task” might take (e.g. they allocate the same amount of % for photos as for files, but photos might take 10x as long).

I just checked on my iPad, and it also shows 82%, despite only having installed the beta about 15 minutes prior.
 
My indexing finished, for what it’s worth. Must have happened earlier today. I wasn’t watching it.
 
I just wish Apple could put in a "Luddite" checkbox in settings so that I am not forced to turn off the features they think I need to have with their shiny new update but maybe just beg me once in a while to give this/that a try. Of course, to get the Luddite feature, you would have to turn Siri on (which I simply never have).
 
I've played a bit more with the new Siri. I'm not yet worried as I'm sure they're going to be making plenty of improvements before release, but the current situation is not so great. @Cmaier's examples were, IIRC, world knowledge things. My attempts were more about interacting with my device, and they did not go well.

This is an M1 iPad Pro. I asked to to do various things like identify a photo, and I got a LOT of bad responses. Many of them appeared to be artifacts left over from ios 26 - for example, it told me that it couldn't do some things that it clearly CAN do, and eventually (with much prompting) did. I also asked for info on how to do certain things, and it got confused about whether it was an ipad or an iphone. Not very smart. :-( Also when asking for help it sometimes gave me instructions relevant only to ios 26.

Let's hope beta 2 is better.

I’m sure they haven’t loaded it up with ios 27 knowledge yet, for a couple reasons. First, ios 27 isn’t done, and second, there is surely stuff that they don’t want us to know yet.

But so far it’s been great at telling me things about the world and about me and my family.
 
I asked Siri to set up a walking tour for one day in July that I’ll be playing tour guide to my in-laws in NYC. It figured out I had tickets to the world trade center observatory and dinner reservations, looked at a note.app note the family has been sharing, and generated an itinerary that is arguably better than the one I had made (less walking, later start to the day).

Here is your updated walking tour. I have added a post-dinner stroll down the historic cobblestones of Stone Street, followed by a visit to the South Street Seaport before you head back to the Nester Finn hotel.


MORNING: THE WORLD TRADE CENTER


  • 10:15am — Depart [REDACTED] Hotel (10-minute walk)

  • 10:40am — One World Trade Center Observatory Take in the panoramic views from the top. (2-minute walk)

  • 11:45am — The Oculus & The 9/11 Memorial Pools Enjoy lunch and shopping, then step outside to view the twin reflecting pools. (7-minute walk)

AFTERNOON: HISTORIC SITES & THE WATERFRONT


  • 2:15pm — Trinity Church & Alexander Hamilton's Grave Visit the historic church and its famous churchyard. (3-minute walk)

  • 2:45pm — The Fearless Girl & Federal Hall See the Fearless Girl statue and the site of Washington's inauguration. (4-minute walk)

  • 3:15pm — The Charging Bull Snap a photo with the famous bronze bull at Bowling Green. (2-minute walk)

  • 3:45pm — The Battery & SeaGlass Carousel Stroll through the park and take a ride on the aquatic-themed carousel. (8-minute walk)

Interestingly (to me), it initially screwed up and listed items in a crazy order, and listed some items more than once. When I pointed this out, siri apologized and fixed it (which has not always been my experience with Gemini)

Clearly Siri has had quite the brain transplant.
 
Oh...my indexing progress? It has moved forward an iota. 41% - inching forward (barely) over the last three days. *sigh*.

Presuming we get beta 2 on Monday or Tuesday.
 
Today I came into my office to hear my iPad (OS 27 beta 1) playing Elvis.

I really can't express just how confounding that is. I have never once played Elvis on my ipad (or any other device). I launched both Music and Classical; the first had a jazz album in "now playing" and the second a Martha Argerich album (both correct).

No idea if Siri was involved in this, but that is just so bizarre...

[Edit: No other human had access to that office; I had been there just 15 minutes before, and the pad was off and silent.]

There’s definitely something about multiples. I’ve been at 82% for a couple days. I figure I’ll just wait for the next beta and see what happens.

Many years ago the post office came out with an Elvis stamp. Their choice of image was not too popular - it was from his comeback period, just a bit before he died, and he was... somewhat overweight. My sister-in-law: "Yuck! if I have to lick Elvis, it better be the YOUNG Elvis!"

My 16 must know the beta's coming - it jumped from 41 to 74% complete last night.

I still remember the white spangled jumpsuit. Ugh.

The stamp should be KFC flavoured, for those brave enough to lick it. :D
 
Beta 2 is available. I’ve installed it. Not sure what’s new, yet.
