Apple rumored to bring some pro apps to ipad

This is great news.
I'm a huge fan of Pixelmator and really liked the direction that the developers were going with a first class native Mac experience Lightroom competitor before they were acquired by Apple. Truthfully I was worried that the apple acquisition would result in Pixelmator being scrapped and the dev team integrating some (but not all capabilities) into Apple Photos.
This is great news for the future of Pixelmator if that is the case and it fills a nice hole in Apple's creative suite. I'd be very happy to see this on iPad (ironically it was on the Pixelmator teams' public roadmap before they were acquired by Apple and the roadmap disappeared if memory serves). It's good to see continued investment in Pixelmator :)

I would love apple to get its act together and stick a fork in adobe. I haven’t tried pixelmator in a long time, but i hear good things.

Does anyone here know if Pixelmator will preserve and handle edit modifications to non-destructive image edits made in Adobe Lightroom going back almost 20 years?

I have a huge number of processed/edited image files (tens of thousands?) going back to when LR was introduced in 2007. Not being able to go back and re-edit/process images, starting from edits I had previously made in LR, would be a deal killer for me.

I used Pixelmator for a long time, iPhone version originally, was great for quick edits, looking forward to Applemator? PixelPod? :ROFLMAO:

A few years ago I got the Serif bundle, such a deal, Windows, MacOS and iPadOS versions of Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher, very solid. It was like $79? With I guess lifetime updates (since I'm still getting them and updated to the major V2 of all the apps, across all platforms)

FWIW, Daughter knocks around on the iPad (we have an M4 11") quite a bit, she uses a mix of Procreate, Sketchbook, and Canva (but I know those aren't photo editing so much as ground up image creation tools).

From doing a bit of research, there's no possibility for Pixelmator to import previously edited Lightroom image files. Other than to export a LR jpeg or tiff image and importing that into Pixelmator. Also... Pixelmator cannot directly access a Lightroom image catalog - a LR export to jpeg is required. Nor can Pixelmator revert to previously edited versions of an image made in Pixelmator.

Looks like I'll be sticking with Lightroom.

Pixelmator and MainStage feel like natural fits on the iPad.

Compressor and motion make sense since Final Cut is there so finishing the Final Cut suite is sensible. But I struggle to see how a fully competent implementation of Conpressor can exist on the platform. But maybe I’m wrong and the files app is now good enough to facilitate it. I use my iPad very little and mostly stay on Mac.
