Everyone set with their new purchases?

In a nutshell: President Donald Trump recently announced an additional 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles and parts, raising concerns about its potential impact on the US automotive sector. While supporters argue that the policy will spur growth, attract investment, and create jobs domestically, critics warn that it will lead to significantly higher prices for shoppers.

The new tariff on imported cars will take effect on April 2, while the import duty on car parts will go into effect on May 3. The components subject to the new policy include engines and engine parts, transmissions and powertrain components, and electrical systems.

yeah, i’m in kind of a bind. I already put down the deposit, but my car won’t actually even be ordered from the factory until June. Who knows what happens with the price.

Peolple trying to beat tariff deadlines will likely start a run on buying cars that’ll drive prices up before then anyway. I’d bet Trump will back off before this goes on too long.

I’m picturing Trump constantly monitored by his staff for what information gets to him. Info like the actual locations of Canada and Greenland. I’m thinking they’re largely successful in keeping him in the dark on what the public thinks but these tariffs are so unpopular they’ll break through the blockade. Someone will get fired and his administration will claim victory for no logical reason.

I went to a Georgian restaurant in Los Altos last week to get Khachapuri. Instead of a bus boy they had a robot that was taking dirty dishes back to the kitchen.

In other words, they couldn’t find someone to take the job. But trump thinks somehow all the world’s factories will move to the United States and there will be no problem finding factory workers. (He also assumes every country in the world won’t retaliate and destroy our export market).

This is what I have a hard time understanding, how can American companies keep up with low prices. I mean if the iPhone was built here it would likely cost 3 times as much.

Also, who will take the low paying jobs to keep things competitive? Certainly not white MAGA people and all the immigrants are being shipped out.

Fear not! According to this Guardian article Florida has the answer - child labor.

A short extract: "The answer, according to Florida lawmakers, is the state’s schoolchildren, who as young as 14 could soon be allowed to work overnight shifts without a break – even on school nights….[the bills] will permit unlimited working hours without breaks for 14- and 15-year-olds who are schooled at home or online, and allow employers to require 16- and 17-year-olds to work for more than six days in a row"

These are interesting times.

This goes hand in hand with their plan to do away with education.

Finally. We've got a 17 year old that needs to be working that UPS 7-days-a-week graveyard shift.
