Plans for $400-billion new city in the American desert unveiled

The cleanliness of Tokyo, the diversity of New York and the social services of Stockholm: Billionaire Marc Lore has outlined his vision for a 5-million-person "new city in America" and appointed a world-famous architect to design it.

I admit that I do find ideas like this fascinating even if I know they'll never work.

There was already a plan to build a "megacity" in the California desert. Needless to say it didn't work out:

I think you have to instantly be skeptical of any claims about equality. Nobody is going to invest billions of dollars in a center of high quality of life affordable living.

However, this might be a good way for billionaires to one-up each other in very public philanthropy before the masses start coming at them with bullets and duffle bags.
