While the notion of a "Privacy Sandbox" sounds like a good thing on the surface, this is a feature that will be used to track users in addition to what is already included inside of Android. It will begin rolling out to a small number of Android 13 users, and expand from there. Google claims that this is an improvement because it tracks a user's interests, rather than the individual. Privacy Sandbox will ostensibly allow Android users to block specific interests which they don't wish to see advertisements for. This won't actually stop any tracking, nor prevent an advert from being delivered.

As noted in the article, Google plans to cripple ad blockers moving forward, since the company receives 80% of it revenue from advertising.

In my opinion, this should come as no surprise, after Chrome attained dominance in browsers, with 77% market share in desktops, and 66% in mobile. Once Google, an advertising company, took the lion's share of the browser market (with non-Apple devices) it was only a matter of time before they moved to kill off any and all impediments to serving those ads.
