Gurman is saying next year’s OS updates will focus on fixes/quality over new features. But then he says there will be a bunch of new AI features.

I think it more likely that next year will just be a normal year,; this year had so many updates (liquid glass, AI, massive changes to iPadOS multitasking, massive spotlight changes in macOS) that a typical year would seem to be “feature-light” by comparison.

That said, I suspect there will be a lot of effort on polishing liquid glass.

JFC I'll be glad when this stupid AI fad is over, it's hard to imagine what more they can possibly offer to make you even more brain dead. As it is I have to google things left and right to learn how to disable it on all of my devices. If I fuck up my grammar then I want to fuck up my grammar.

Alexa also now has more enhanced AI. This morning I said "shuffle songs by Rush" and then jumped into the shower, it then gave me a message about something new AI something something that I couldn't hear. So I said "Alexa, play last message" and it said "I didn't understand that question" really? WTF?. BTW here's where I agree with Carol on Pluribus, just burn the whole mother down.

With the LLM bubble about to burst, Apple seems to have played things perfectly. Add a little AI here and there for very specific features where it can’t really do any damage, do a deal with Google to use their LLM to make Siri smarter, and avoid investing billions on what’s going to end up being commodity technology.

Yes! I tried explaining this to someone on MR who was bemoaning that even future hardware for Apple PCC couldn’t handle the largest LLM’s and that “Apple was going to be left behind”. Catching up to a bubble is always ultimately a fool’s game even if the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.
