This is exciting to me. I think they’re going to do for wi-fi what they did for bluetooth. Hopefully they come out with some sort of mesh router to tie everything together.

My eternal dream is a new Apple router. I have my doubts but perhaps that’s what’s meant by “enhance connectivity” here? I wonder if it would be possible to act as a “generic” mesh point? That is act as a mesh for a third party router. My hunch is no, but perhaps I”m wrong.

As I’ve said elsewhere, even if they don’t enter the router market again, there is lots of opportunities to improve things. Airdrop, continuity camera, sidecar etc. All these things could be improved with a chip that is tailored to those things and functions better at low power.

I would love another Airport. I miss my old ones.

When I had to replace my (non-Apple) WiFi access point and couldn't decide which current one to get, I instead went with a refurbished AirPort Extreme.
When it arrived, the manual was missing, but I already had it plugged in. I wanted to search for a PDF, but instead macOS asked me if I wanted to configure the AirPort Extreme it just found. Yes, I would, thank you.
Easiest integration ever.

I'm not sure if Apple want to get into that market again, but I defintely wouldn't say no to an updated AirPort.
