Ah, wonderful: My mother did, too.
She absolutely adored him, and used to caress the syllables in his surname whenever she spoke of him.

My friend Diane was lucky enough to interview him a few times. She said he was one of the best interviews she ever had with a celebrity writer (his 2nd memoir; she mostly writes articles on books and authors, and the publishing industry generally).
