Sports Authority was one of the only stores I ever went to if I needed to purchase a set of sports gear. I kept coming back to them just because of how sweet their employees were. When I found out they were liquidating all of their stores, I was devastated.
From what I gather, a different company acquired Sports Authority in a leveraged buyout and resulted in them taking on tons of debt. Sports Authority couldn't pay off that debt, and by 2016, the company went bankrupt. Shortly after that, Dick's Sporting Goods acquired their intellectual property.
