RIP Teri Garr, 79

She’s considerably older than me but I crushed on her as a youngster. Her performance in Tootsie (great film) was fantastic.

I decided I will address my new car as Inga, in memory of her.

She was great in Tootsie and other films, but I'll always have a soft spot for her playing Roberta Lincoln in the Star Trek episode Assignment: Earth. It was Teri Garr's first significant TV role. Among my favorite lines:
  • "What are you?" to Mr. Spock when she pulls off his hat.
  • "Well, how do you expect me to type, with my nose?" when Gary Seven asks her to write a report.
  • "Would you mind telling me who that is?" when she sees Isis, the woman in black who had previously appeared as a cat. The identity of the actress, April Tatro, remained a mystery until only five years ago.

Totally agree.

She was so perfectly cast in Close Encounters too, just the right reactions, like, I'm just going to go along with all this ... up to a point :D

Not to get too far off topic, but Assignment: Earth is such a fantastic (TOS) episode, I'm sure you know, the plan was to take it to series - but that there is a terrific comic (written/illustrated by John Byrne who had some iconic runs on X-Men), that's really good, available at your usual sources (Amazon, Comixology, etc.):

One of my favorite episodes too. The sequence where Kirk had to decide to let Gary Seven take over the detonation and the subsequent countdown was fantastic. I never get tired of it. Teri Garr portrayed the perfect combination of youthful innocence and savvy. Thanks for the tip on the comic miniseries!
