It belonged in a large TL;DR spoiler tag but they probably don't make them that big.  I can tell you today that the Honduran coffee I got for Christmas is deceptively light and smooth but it apparently has a quarter-life of about 36 hours.

Moving right along....

Mind you Grassley is the president pro tempore of the Senate, third in line in the formal succession to the presidency and so a guy with his own security detail (same as the VP, and Pelosi the Speaker of the House  as she is second in the succession).

He was in the Senate chamber as were most Senators when the incursion had proceeded to the point where the VP's detail entered to remove the Vice President to a safer location in the building.

By constitutional provision then it was Grassley who took the VP's place so the formal proceedings of the day could continue. Not long after that Grassley's detail escorted him out also, the proceedings were suspended and the Senate chamber was secured from within. With guns drawn in case of a breach, the capitol police told people to shelter in place in the chamber and that they could not leave out of concern for their own safety.

From a USA today chronology of the breach of the Capitol:

Yet today GOP Senator Grassley reports he's merely "disturbed" by accounts of a death threat against the Iowa Democratic Party, and in the same tweet encourages that we come together as Americans.

I'm all for Americans realizing we have common ground,  but never without first some accountability for this terrible culmination of four yers of Republicans enabling its inevitable progression.

The GOP is trying to skip past that, calling for us to sit down and sing around the campfire together.  Now that idea when floated by the GOP is in itself is a crock: McConnell swore whether he's majority leader or not in the 117th Congress, he would do all to obstruct the Biden administration's legislative agenda no matter what's in it.

These Republican "leaders" like McConnell, McCarthy, Grassley, Graham (never mind the renegades Cruz and Hawley) all need to see a shrink if not a special prosecutor.  They are fractured, trying to run multiple versions of their own party's alleged operating system, eating their own next instructions. Their copies of the Constitution must be in the shredder meanwhile.

Past that they are living on the back of a lie they cannot figure out how to safely renounce,  since now their Trump-incited base literally wants to kill their Republican officials too, not just Democrats,  if the GOP will not support this now seditious Trump.

Number of states in our country minus the number of Supreme Court Justices?
