US passports coming to Apple Wallet shortly -- confirmed

Apple's head of Apple Pay has given a keynote speech at a financial technology conference, revealing Apple Wallet figures, and that US passport is coming soon.

This doesn’t seem like it will be very useful if you already have a driver’s license in Apple Wallet (as it seems like it can only be used as ID in the same places that already accept those), but I love hoarding stuff in my Apple Wallet.

Also, I have had a couple cases involving the technology in passports (defending the government!), and I know pretty much everything there is to know about the RFID protocol, encryption, etc., so this news is a little extra interesting to me.

PSA: Oh, and don’t bother with RFID-blocking wallets around your passport. Even if someone could read your passport’s data remotely, they couldn’t decrypt it without visually seeing the front page.
