Weird iPhone bug

A few weeks back the search function on my iPhone 15 Pro MAX stopped working. I couldn't get it to search for apps that I have scattered throughout my phone. I have tried everything from rebooting my phone, clearing the searches, deleting the most recent app, logging out and back into my apple account, upgrading to the latest patch (was only one minor patch behind), turning off/on the dictionary settings (per the suggestions from my search). This seems to be a random bug going back to 2023, and I tried all the suggestions but the last one with no results. Finally I had to backup my phone and erase all content and reset my phone. That worked, but I wish I didn't have to do that.

Anyone else have this experience, and why can't Apple identify such a crippling bug?

Wow that's a bizarre one, never heard of it. 🤷‍♂️

Probably not a common occurrence, so it's hard for Apple to track down without logs. One way to generate them is described here, though it requires a basically functioning device. You can send the sysdiagnose logs to Apple. (We had to do this at work when we encountered an obscure bug.)

Glad you got it working, though!
