t might sound like something from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - but flying cars could soon be jetting passengers around Europe by next year.

Slovakia-based company Klein Vision claims its 'AirCar' – the world's first mass-produced flying car – will go on sale in early 2026.

Styled like a sports coupe, the bizarre hybrid – which has four wheels and two wings – builds speed along a runway before lifting into the air.

The two-seater can release its retractable wings in less than two minutes as it prepares for take-off, before stowing them away again at its destination.

Stefan Klein, founder of Klein Vision, said AirCar 'fulfills a lifelong dream' to bring passenger flight 'into the hands of everyday people'.

'With the launch of our production prototype, we are one step closer to transforming how the world moves – merging the road and the sky into a new dimension of personal mobility,' he said.

Klein Vision estimates the vehicle will go on sale in the first three months of 2026 – but it won't come cheap.

A company spokesperson told MailOnline that the vehicle will start at $800,000 (£600,000) but could go up to $1 million (£750,000) depending on specs.

Gotta start somewhere I guess, the first of everything electronic/computer based always comes at unrealistic prices until they become commonplace.

My guess is it'll have to be adopted outside of the US long before it's even considered here with the FAA and all their regulations.

Planes, no matter what, are very expensive.

Always interesting to see what is happening on the other side of the economic multiverse. Meanwhile I'm putting off the purchase of some solar yard lights because $40 seems a bit much.

Yep, we've been way more frugal now that the tariffs are in effect, some of the prices for anything from China are now just ridiculously inflated. Also can't get some things that I want because one of the most credible companies I've ever worked with from over there is refusing to even bother to sell to us anymore.

Hoping the fat fuck falls out of a window.

I have had way to many of those fail. hell the low wattage lights seem to fail too much too.

Yeah, but when times were cheaper it was kind of worth the gamble. I've got some solar torch lights that have still been going strong for probably about a decade and I haven't even needed to change the batteries.

I remember reading a vacuum review on Amazon where the customer was going ballistic because it only lasted 3 years. I remember thinking anything (only) lasting 3 years sounds like a quality build to me, but our grandparents probably had the same vacuum their entire life with little maintenance needed.

I'm not condoning this, but presidents have been assassinated over far less and the amount of people he has fucked over from different segments of society is unparalleled. That's all he does is fuck people over.

I can't condone it either but I can sure hope something naturally does its thing.

They should have solved self-driving before approaching this. People have a hard enough time not smashing into each other....or stationary items. Let's add elevation. People in high rises will never feel safe again. :D

Edit: And, as I said to Jeff Bezos in an email that I sent a few years ago (no idea if it made it to him) - "It makes sense for Amazon, who has aspirations to use drones for home deliveries - to create the air traffic control system for low altitude transportation. You could have it managed by AI. And call it SkyNet."

I figured that would at least have gotten a chuckle out of someone. *shrug*

Somalia, maybe. Most of the western world is just not ready for this much chaos. I cannot even begin to imagine hundreds or thousands of flying cars in the country. Regular motorists are bad enough as it is.

"They" have been approaching this for more than half a century. Not very effectively, but they have been approaching it. Self-driving was much less realistic for most of that time and still is not quite there yet. People are pretty stupid and infecting their car automation with that as well.

And, of course, there is the AGW issue. This thing's carbon footprint cannot be, good. We need to try "sensible", not "ridiculous".
