Well, it is all in the models. I read of a paper that purported to advance a viable theory wherein gravity itself is an emergent property of entanglement, in such a way that the need for the dark matter hypothesis is eliminated.
Which brings up the paradox of existence. Does stuff create spacetime? Stuff needs a place to reside, but by the same token, space is non-meaningful if there is no stuff to be in it. The true vacuum collapses. There is a curious symbiosis between what and where: neither can exist without the other.
