Apple: Linux on M1

I know they've never really hampered people from installing Linux but they haven't exactly helped either so this is quite interesting.

I'm wondering how far they can take it. Given that Apple hasn't released much on the inner workings of the M1 GPU, anyone wanting to port Linux over to the platform would have to reverse engineer their work to create drivers for it.

As we've seen from the woeful performance of the open source Nvidia Nouveau drivers, this is something much easier said than done.

Looks like Apple is taking steps specifically to make it easier for the community to get Linux up and running on M1.

I wonder how well a M1 Research Cluster would scale over a traditional Intel or AMD cluster.

Since performance/watt is what typically matters in clusters, should be good.

It always amuses me when Hector tweets about something Apple did to enable this and inevitably gets "Don't trust evil apple they hate Linux and want to sabotage it" replies. This one didn't disappoint!

Sometimes I really hate the Linux community. And I say that as a pretty hardcore Linux user.
