According to an email seen by 9to5Mac, Apple Music is introducing Transparency Tags for Apple Music.

The new Transparency Tags will include four tag types that correspond to the main creative elements of digital music content:

  • Artwork: AI was used to generate a material portion of the artwork for an album. This applies to both static and motion graphic artwork.
  • Track: AI was used to generate a material portion of a sound recording. This tag is available at the track level only.
  • Composition: AI was used to generate a material portion of any music composition embodied in a track. Use this tag when AI generated a material portion of the lyrics, or other components of a composition.
  • Music Video: AI was used to generate a material portion of the visual elements. This applies to music videos bundled with albums and standalone videos.

Artists will be responsible for determining how much a category applies to their music, but that if "a material portion of the content has been created using AI," they must disclose this for listeners. At least 1, up to 4 of the tags can apply to a song or album and will be displayed to listeners.

Keep in mind this only applies to new music, not existing

I do. There are a few suspicious authors that manage to churn out 5 or more novels a year. Pretty obvious.
I usually read books the old fashioned way, but I also use Apple Books occasionally. It wouldn't surprise me to know that some authors are generating content using AI, but the ones I buy on Apple Books are always digital versions of well-known publications.

I actually use both kindle and apple books (i would kill for an apple-made e-paper tablet), but on Apple I mostly read books about failed tech companies.

An Apple e-paper tablet would be an instant buy for me.

According to the experts on MR, Apple would be included in the list of failed tech companies.

From what I’ve seen it’s optional tags at first. And if it eventually becomes required enforcement is also a non trivial problem.

But I like that they’ve got separate tags for separate kinds of ai usage. And potentially being able to globally turn off all ai generated music, composed or audio generated or whatever from all discovery stations and such would be a great future.

This needs to be strictly enforced, not just for music but for video/images as well. I go out and shoot real scenes and then when I post there are always a bunch of comments claiming that it's AI and it's getting worse every day, it's getting old trying to defend it, like you can't keep your head above water. Actual content creators are getting cooked by this shit.

It's not. 9to5Mac says that it's artist determined, but if the artist uses a substantial portion, then it is required to disclose it.

It's simply impractical at this point for Apple to verify if an artist used it or not there is zero guaranteed method to determine that.

I haven't seen the email directly. But this is what 9to5Mac said. All others claiming it is optional are likely saying this because the artist or studio must do this work
