That is what this is - it is not a "deal for ARM technology". Apple invested in the IPO that is all. Apple has the same architectural license it had before - that allows it to use the ISA.

Amd 7900 xtx gets around 15000. Significantly more than the M2 Ultra. In blender they are close. I’m guessing redshift is just much better optimized?

This does put into perspective just how far behind Apple’s gpus are for this kind of work, especially given the cost. People reporting around 37000 for a 4090. Oof.
Wrong thread :)

No these are two separate things, Apple invested in ARM’s IPO and also signed a seemingly new deal that ARM made public as part of its IPO documentation. We don’t actually know what Apple’s initial ISA deal with ARM was, it was speculated that it might be an “in perpetuity” deal but it may not have been. This deal which is thought to be more recent is covered until 2040. Unclear to me what it’s for, ISA or something else. Presumably since it’s public someone could read the document and it would say at least in broad strokes what it was about.

Here’s a direct link to today’s SEC filing for anyone who wants to have a look for themselves.

Diversifying and Deepening our Relationships with Market Leaders. We have established close partnerships with leading companies across all of our target markets, including, among others, Apple Inc., Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd., Samsung …
… Further, we have entered into a new long-term agreement with Apple that extends beyond 2040, continuing our longstanding relationship of collaboration with Apple and Apple’s access to the Arm architecture.
From this wording, it would appear that it is a new deal concerning the ISA and maybe other things. So potentially the previous deal was not in perpetuity? Edit: or the previous deal was in perpetuity and now is not … Apple ISA in 2042 confirmed! 🙃

Or they re-signed the same deal (so they can report it) to reassure potential IPO investors 🤷‍♂️
