Electric Vehicles: General topics

Nvidia had a whole presentation about AI and talked about their partnership with Mercedes with this tech.

Looks like they have some YT folk a ride and talked about it. Allegedly this city stack will launch in the CLA this quarter.

This tech is really coming along nicely and for the most part is very smart. It just comes down to what manufacturers and regulators will allow.

BTW I drive in SF several times a week and these cars (especially Waymo) are everywhere, like you see 2 or 3 on every block with no drivers in complex situations as this video shows happen all the time. So it seems like it's really just a matter of time.

Wow, looks like Olympian is actually shipping some product (a van called Model 42 and a raw EV platform) and expects to have their full lineup available this year. The car is maybe a bit too art deco for my liking, but the interior has a pleasing minimalism to it. I had suspected them to be vaporware, like the Aptera that has been "coming soon" for two decades, but they are real. Expensive but not off-the-charts so.

That’s some ugly cars right there. And not cheap. Where would one get these things serviced?

In other news Tesla is no longer including AP with their vehicles. So they are able to go back to CA and say that they aren't falsely advertising anymore....

well, let’s see how they market it. The AP stuff gets folded into the FSD stuff, so this is really about forcing people to pay the subscription fee.

Yep, always my first question.

SC location is a major consideration and it's a (major) reason why I took Rivian off my list a while back (I actually had an R1S on reservation). We're in St. Augustine, the closest Rivian SC has been Orlando, and I won't do 2+ hours. A couple of things changed though, 1) getting a SC in St. Johns County (I think in the Costco area near WGV) and b) we're likely relocating to Orlando, at least that concern has been resolved (and my I've kept my R2 reservation for now).

It's funny, we took in our iX for service, minor fix (it was the stuck OTA update) and general service check, and even the 45 minutes to the closest BMW service center was a little far (it wound up being fun, it was Xmas Eve, no questions asked, they handed over a new iX as a loaner for as long as they had ours).

But yeah, my new SC location spec is < 30 minutes away.

Anyone looking at the new Volvo EX60 (midsize SUV) with 400 mile range (largest battery) and 18 minute fast charging 10 to 80% for the smallest battery option? Hopefully, the model will be a part of the Overseas delivery program.

Hahaha, yes, I was literally posting this right when you posted :D

The new Volvo EX60!

Looks good, pretty clinical design language, but some nice Volvo elements. Interior is very cool, some physical buttons, a proper driver's facing display.

The Drive

Nice details with some BMW iX3 comparison!

And I am digging on the Cross Country trim.

EX60, yet another reason not to buy a Tesla 🤣
