In the 1930s, an amateur Austrian entomologist discovered a beetle and decided to name it for the most well-known Austrian of the day. Awesome.
Fast-forward about nine decades, we find devoted Neo-Nazis collecting the hitler beetle for, um, I guess its name. This is beginning to pose a genuine threat to the survival of the species (beetle, that is).
Some in the scientific community are suggesting that the name be changed, to save the beetles from a pointless extinction. Some in the general public are heard to say WTAF.
