The FTC has sent a letter to 97 dealer groups about pricing transparency. This is 97 groups so thousands of dealers.
The issues at hand are:
—Advertising a price that does not reflect all required fees
—Advertising a price that reflects rebates or discounts not available to all consumers
—Advertising a price that fails to take into account the amount of an additional required down payment
—Conditioning the advertised price on consumers using dealer financing
—Requiring consumers to buy additional items not reflected in the advertised price
—Advertising unavailable or non-existent vehicles.
Personally I think this is a huge win for consumers. I see this every day as I deliver vehicles to customers for a local dealer. And I have to explain what PermaPlate or Etch is and do they have to take it etc.
Our dealer doesn’t have many “ads”. Really just those 2 plus being in AZ we tint every new vehicle that comes in.
But some of the Valley dealers put a couple of thousand $ worth including $99-199 for Nitrogen in tires.
So now dealers are going to have to post a price that anyone can walk in a pay for that vehicle less taxes and government fees.
Again, good for the consumer.
