Guns are still America’s religion

Man shows up at the Wisconsin governor's office, bare chested, with a leashed dog and a holstered pistol, demanding to see the governor. Naturally, security escorted him to the police station, confiscated his weapon and took his dog. He managed to get bailed out of jail, showing up later that night outside the capitol with an assault rifle.


He is undergoing mental evaluation. The dog is in a shelter.

Crazy times we're in. And the Rs are ok with the situation.

I wonder how they determine during the evaluation if they are having serious mental health issues or if they are just a real patriot. Is there a difference? 🤔
 
Why aren't there sensible gun laws? You have an opportunity to check an unloaded gun onto a plane, but you also have to declare it. What amazes me was last year there was 6700 guns that TSA stopped from getting onto a plane in carryon luggage and 93% were loaded! And whether or not the person was arrested or just cited, came down to the local law. My thought is you had a legal option, but failed to adhere to the law so you now need to be arrested and get your day in court to explain why you don't feel the need to be a law abiding citizen.

While there is zero excuse, most of those caught with gun in carry-on's say they simply forgot it was in there.

I do keep one in my carry on when driving, but make sure to remove it when I get home.

How do they “forget” where their guns are? That’s the height of irresponsible gun ownership. Wheni travel by car (alone) I keep the gun in the glove box and the clip in the passenger seat. In case of breakdown, load gun and keep it visible in the passenger seat.

I think the "I forgot it was there" excuse is way too easy to use. Betcha if they were fined heavily, say $50,000 and loss of the right to carry for say 5 years, then the incidents of forgetfulness would go way down.
 
In the restaurant area of Duran's Central Pharmacy in Albuquerque, a guy was responsibly exercising his 2A rights, and fuck that sign telling him not to, when his piece got loose and the floor fired a shot into someone else's head. Being a dutiful guy, he retrieved his errant weapon and left the place.

The other person will, more or less, be ok. Police are asking for help identifying the guy, using security video. He looks a bit like a guy who has buddies who will keep him safe from those law dastards. Hopefully the gun was not harmed.

Two instances of legitimate political discourse by a legally armed man - I say legally because the second amendment puts no restrictions on gun ownership.

So why was an innocent civilian targeted by having two guns and a dog confiscated and his first amendment rights stifled?

I have a strong feeling republicans have saturated their rhetoric and messaging to the point the Republican voters actually believe everyone has a right to do whatever they want, whenever. It’s a great tactic to win votes, but we’ve already seen republicans crying out when their voters are threatening them.

You can really see the anger in the Speaker situation. Go to conservative blogs and look at the comments on Speaker Johnson. These people are wanting and expecting one-party rule and want only Republican-backed bills passed, totally ignoring and obvious to the fact we have a democratic senate and President. They’re heading toward another removal vote - if not over the budget then probably something else down the line - and the temperature will only increase as the MAGA loons think they’ll have another shot at Speaker Gym.
 
They waited outside for 77 minutes as those children and teachers were slaughtered.

It is probably just statistical noise, but so far, we are way down in shoot-'em-up incidents. The last two months of '23 were the quietest of the year, and this month looks even quieter. By this time last year, we had more than twice as many incidents and three times as many fatalities. I doubt this is an actual trend, but that would be nice.

Crime is actually down - by a lot - in a lot of places (and down overall), but there are pockets of persistent crime (SF, carjackings and gang violence in Chicago, etc.) that are definitely problems, but used to both blame democrat-run cities (while ignoring rampant drug use, sexual assault and domestic violence in rural America).

What we have are heightened political tensions and a governing body that does less than nothing about the rampant spread of gun violence and mass shootings/killings, and a magnification glass on the bad that does exist. Before the internet, many Americans watched a half-hour, hour, maybe a couple hours of news a day, read the paper and you couldn't see all the horrible things happening across the globe.

There were some who tried but the cops stopped them. They flat out handed all of those children to the shooter on a silver platter.

Actually as a father I can understand that line of thinking. The question is... Morally you are in the right, but legally I believe they would have viewed you a potential threat and at the very least would have tased you if you didn't comply with their order.

Paraphrasing the DOJ report, but it said in no uncertain terms that as a police officer your safety and even life come absolute second to stopping these shooters. I feel like that’s either not being taught in the academy or has been whittled down to a passing comment nobody heard.

I’m sure it’ll be addressed with training but this is bigger than that, not a single one of them stepped up to put a stop to it. It’s much like a crowd watching a mugging or some other crime not wanting to get involved.

In this case though it was supposed to be brave and trained officers who are sworn to protect, who were fully armed and wearing body armor, a luxury those children and teachers certainly did not have while enclosed in that room as the officers ensured nobody else could get in either.

Every last one of those officers should not only be fired, but charged.
