Well, in the '70s, HP was the premium calculator company (if you could master their RPN), but then they started making printers and PCs and it was all a slide from there. Dell did manage to make a name for themselves, but I am not sure whether they had gone into quality-profit entropy.

just buy a Lenovo or an Asus if an x86 laptop is a must for you. Avoid hp and dell
