India wants access to iOS source code?

The governments already get their back doors via their lawful access legislation. Asking private companies to hand over all of their IP is absolutely ridiculous - no-one will comply with that.

I’m so disappointed by so many many companies who don’t have a spine and bend to anyone, to bullies the better. I hope you are right 🤞

Well, I know first-hand how the lawful access pieces work because of my days at BlackBerry. There are secret courts that the public are unaware of. The government agencies request what devices they want to access and, once the subpoena is granted, the service provider grants their access through the mechanisms that they've provided.

The driver for these measures were the government anti-terrorism efforts - but you can easily see how the tools could be mis-used when governments have nefarious agendas and judges sitting on those courts that are complicit.

Oh...and one more comment. If India truly wants Apple's source code - then they should put in the same effort that China does. Get sleeper agents hired into dev roles in Apple so they can access the code directly. Sheesh. :D
