To me, it sounds like big camera changes on the way. Maybe something like this?

I imagine the move away from Titanium, has to do with the lack of US supply of the material and the impact of tariffs. Also with Ukraine now potentially becoming a Russian state...

I don’t think Apple will be affected by the tariffs. Cook has properly sucked up to TFG.

With the iPhone event only a week away, I’ve been seeing a lot of product-level rumors, but not much on underlying tech. Since the A19 SoCs may be a preview for M5 architectural changes, I’m curious if anyone has heard anything interesting.

I believe the major process node advancements (wafer-level multi-chip module, backside power, gate-all-around transistors, etc.) will be used for the A20/M6 generation rather than this one, but I haven’t looked into it recently. I’m personally hoping for some GPU/ANE advancements, perhaps RAM as well.

not worried about it will be boring. I dont upgrade all the time anymore it's just pointless. the only better part this last time was the extra buttons and maybe the camera. The whole AI chip was a bust.

Extra button sucks, IMHO (at least the camera one). It’s in the wrong place, it’s not tactile, and it should work like an actual camera button (half-press to lock focus/exposure or focus). All the touch/swipe stuff just ends up getting triggered accidentally.

its too finicky to use its light press. But it works ok as a camera button. still better than having to unlock the phone and all that.

I'm sort of used to it. I agree with Cmaier that it could/should be a lot better regarding ergonomics.

Most of the time (when shoutting horizontally) I use the zoom wheel (with my right thumb) for zooming/framing, and the small button above the volume buttons (with my left thumb) for releasing the shutter.

I'm just gonna wait it out another year for the foldable.

I am on the fence about the iPhone 17 since I have the 15 Pro Max. However, I am definitely going to get the AirPod Pro 3 if they do indeed have the Star Trek universal translator feature. I am also looking at the Apple Watch Ultra 3 (currently have an Apple Watch 7 blue), if they have satellite messaging, and then I'll ditch my Garmin service. I do wish they would bring back the blue color, though.

I have the 15 Pro Max too. It performs well, but my main reason for upgrading over the past decade has been camera improvements. I'm also guided by the version of iOS my wife's 12 Pro will run – she gets my phone when I buy a new one. So I suspect I'll get the 18 or 19. I updated my Apple Watch from an S6 to an S10 last year, and I expect it to last a few years.

For me, the main thing I use the phone for is cameras, and pro will always have better cameras than the foldable. That said, i do wonder if i would use the phone for a lot more stuff if it folded out to ipad mini size (which it allegedly will).

Me too, for evil purposes. Three times in the last month or two I’ve been in elevators or stores and heard people speaking german. On one occasion they talked about my clothes. Being able to understand what people are saying when they think you can’t is a great superpower.

Heh, I always assume the conversation in <insert foreign language here> goes like this.

Person 1: Look at this stupid American. You can say anything to him and he wouldn't understand.
Person 2: You are fat and lazy! All you need to do is finish your Duo challenges for the week, and you'd understand us making fun of you.
Person 1: Hahahahaha (laugh is unintelligible to me because it is in a foreign language.)

I had an epiphany during my last holiday that even foreign pets are smarter than me. It bums me out to know that dogs understand a foreign language that I don't.

We'll see what happens. Personally I like the camera button on the 16 Pro and Apple Intelligence is okay - a bit of a rough start but overall it's okay. I'd just as soon they never have gimmicks like folding phones - do the basics and do them flawlessly.

I also have the 15 Pro Max and have been very happy with it. Having spent most of my career teaching languages, I don't put much stock in machine translations. They miss the important nuances of language.

I've always upgraded for the camera we well. But it would be wonderful not to have to carry a phone and a tablet if one device can serve as both.

I find the camera button useless and still use the Lock Screen button to jump to it in a hurry.

But I upgrade my phone every year since the $400 net cost is a business expense, and I always have the best camera system and a fresh battery. Totally worth it. I have friends who spend that on dinner out.

But I’m keeping my OG Apple Watch Ultra 1 another year until there’s a major upgrade to the SoC or the screen or we get magnetic bands.

Our old neighbors always taught their dogs commands in German. No idea why, but they did. They aren't German either.
Did they have a LEO background, or were the dogs being trained to be guard dogs? LEO trains their dogs with German commands so that criminals cannot counter a command if they don't understand it.

Which is why I learned German. Roll dich um, braver Hund!
