There will be a reckoning when all these companies firing everyone and replacing them with super autocomplete algorithms realize that customers are pissed off. It’s already happened here and there.

There is nothing more impersonal to clients/customers than forcing an AI on them that cannot solve or understand their issue. I had this happen at BofA and it took around 45 minutes for me to get to an agent who could actually answer what was a very simple banking question. It's enough to have me looking at credit unions with human beings instead.

Had to call the DMV earlier in the week and the AI asked for my driver's license number and date of birth. Twice it responded it doesn't match their system. So I had to talk to a human and there was no issue.

However, there is one area I know AI would do a far superior job. Part of my job at work is getting insurance certificates cleared. We email out a PDF that clearly states our requirements. Insurance brokers are collectively some of the laziest people I regularly deal with. A lot of times they don't respond at all unless their client makes it an emergency and when they do respond 90% of the time they clearly didn't read our requirements because what they send doesn't pass. AI could easily scan our document and produce what we need or inform us if they don't currently have some of the coverages required. I know there are aspects of insurance where dealing with a human would be more helpful but this isn't one of them.

Amazon AWS gets rid of a lot of IT developers and replaces them with AI. A week later, the AWS outage happens, and the word on the street is that AI made a mistake that caused the issue, not a hallucination, an actual mistake.

Yeah, and that was the same day they sent me an email encouraging me to switch to AWS...
