M3 core counts and performance

I guess we figured out who orders pizza the best. ;)

Pizza guy is back! I decided to have some fun:

I'll let you guys know what he replies with if anything, I'm sure it'll be entertaining!

Confused-User's giant Pizza Guy takedown post at the other place contained a detail I hadn't seen before... seems that Pizza Guy's true motivation is that he's a racist right-winger who hates Apple because they're too woke. That's the reason he's always going on and on about how chip design is as easy as ordering a pizza - in his mind, any company that cares about DEI cannot be good at anything that's difficult and technical.

Wow. Hadn’t realized that. Genuinely wasn’t sure if he was trolling or stupid.

Qualcomm doesn’t hire women and minorities, I guess is the point?

At various times I had two different women as my boss in my semiconductor career. Both were smarter than almost anyone at MR.

Yeah I hadn’t seen that either @NotEntirelyConfused. Yuck.

I think that would only reinforce his beliefs - as far as I can tell it’s all chip designers, including Qualcomm, are pizza-orderers and chip design itself isn’t real engineering precisely because those companies are “woke” marketing companies selling to us rubes who hire unqualified people (always women and minorities) because “DEI”. So rest assured AMD was and is almost certainly woke too. Only those working in fabrication at TSMC et al. are “real” engineers.

I have bad news for this guy - certainly at AMD, and from my experience being interviewed at Intel - *most* chip designers, as well as most fab process designers, were asian (either east asian or south asian).

I was telling my daughter the other day that I when I received my Ph.D. diploma, and they were announcing names so that we knew when to walk across the stage, I got a huge ovation. I realized that my last name began with M, and that every other person who received their PdD before me by that point had an Indian or Chinese last name. (I was explaining to my daughter how icky that ovation made me feel at the time).

My degree is the same degree that you need when you work on semiconductor processes. So whether it’s digital design or fab nodes, I’m pretty sure the demographics are similar.

Aye usually I’ve found that the minorities these kinds of “anti-woke/DEI” people target the most are women, lgtbq, black, and non-white Hispanic and often in that order. There’s generally a grudging recognition that tech companies couldn’t function without Asian/South Asian males - especially if he’s lauding TSMC, a rather famously Taiwanese company. Though every asshole of this general kind is their own special snowflake so who knows with this guy in particular? He’s so ignorant I wouldn’t put it past him and let’s face it, even in the above grudging is doing a lot of heavy lifting in “grudging recognition”.

Just finished reading that thread and someone just posted a funny little tidbit:
