Two of my favorite companies. I love how Lisa Su keeps talking about providing “gigawatts” of compute. You know you’re on the right track when you sell compute by the gigawatt.

Top500 lists El Capitan as currently the fastest SC, at 1809PF (peak 2821PF), drawing around 30MW. It uses EPYC and an AMD compute card ("Slingshot"). There is a GraceHopper at #8 that looks like if it could scale to the same size, it would draw similar power.

"AI" is primarily being used for marketing and putting together some content, but its value compared to the runtime cost is highly questionable. Meta is mostly interested in monetizing their LLMs for optimal getting-users-to-buy-stuff-from-advertisers. This seems unfortunate. Retiring the billionaires who need these things to widen the gap between them and humans seems like the ideal approach to reducing this absurd power consumption.
