Now Johny Srouji wants to leave...

Yes, all. You just personally insulted me despite me not attacking you personally.

I will address the rest of your edited comment before retiring this matter with you.

This is supposed to be a mostly harmless fun chat about tech. The fact that you need to come in attack mode is very weird. You claimed an article isn’t an article because you don’t like Gurman. I don’t think you’re onto quite the winner you think you are. All the best.
Nothing about this is HARMLESS at this point. I am not attacking you, but attacking Gurman's work. I specifically outlined the issues I had with the article, and used your incorrect read of the article as a starting point, not as a thesis.

I am sorry that I offended you, because that was not my intention and I enjoy reading what you write. Nothing about this was personal against you, even if I made it feel like it was.

What? Oh my. You came in very hot. If you have an issue with Gurman take it up with him.

Incorrect read according to you. The implication is clearly that he wanted go elsewhere IF HE LEFT. no one is suggest that he go elsewhere and stay at Apple or go elsewhere and retire. This is a forum of informal discussion.

I think we can both disengage if you like.

I don’t feel I initiated a confrontation.
I didn’t say you did. I just asked that everyone avoid commenting on other posters, and instead keep it to the topic at hand.

I don't deny that I started my first comment off as a massive critique, but you're conflating my criticisms of Gurman with criticisms of you specifically. That is my fault for not properly segmenting my comment and clarifying I'm not against you.

That said, why I started off was because you were worried that this "could be a bad sign for Apple," and when someone said that he will just retire, not work somewhere else, your comment incorrectly asserted that he's leaving to go somewhere else.

The problem I had with that comment is that Gurman admits it's completely conditional ("if," and also claiming on Twitter that Srouji is staying, so what the hell Gurman is actually claiming I have no clue) that he leaves. And that if he did, he would leave to work somewhere else. There's no surety about any of it.

I used it as a starting point for why I hate his articles, because they're so poorly written, gossipy, and do nothing except drive traffic to Bloomberg and earn him money. It often leads to confusion even amongst the most well-intentioned people.

I'm just sick of lies he spews. I'm sick of lack of accountability. I'm sick of no one standing up and calling him out.

I assure you, he should not be a columnist. Unfortunately I have no say in that, so I'm left to simply write what I think is massively wrong about his work.

My *guess* is Srouji had a really good/tight/pleasant working relationship with Cook. With Cook's pending departure, perhaps he felt it was time for him to explore other possibilities. Or take a long pause and persue some hobbies he hasn't had a chance to get into.

So which is it, Gurman?

So which is it, Gurman?

The Bullshitter in Chief strikes again.

He’ll claim something ridiculous to justify the original story no doubt. Pretty clear this is a glove slap for Gurman.

He's disgusting. He's a bullshitter in chief. He doesn't care about Apple, its products, its fans, or even Bloomberg. He only seeks to enrich himself. He loves the attention. He loves the money.

FUCK. GURMAN.

Uh, the "article" in question (if we really want to call this that) does not claim that he wants to leave for another company.

The article claims that IF he leaves, then he would not immediately retire and would instead go work somewhere.

The article also claims he would prefer to keep working for Tim Cook, and not another CEO.

He claims insider knowledge, so much so that he's saying he knows the deliberations between Johny and Tim themselves, yet literally makes no mention of why Johny would want to "leave" Apple. This is suspicious to say the least.

This "article" is a complete hysterical shitshow. I noticed after he wrote an article on Alan Dye leaving for Facebook, that no one gave the reaction he had hoped for (people panicking). Watching him have a psychological breakdown on twitter was both entertaining and enlightening, because it illustrated what all of this is really about: gossip to turn a profit for himself.

A lot of executives at Apple are older, not younger, so obviously at some point they will retire. The majority of high profile leaves are retirements, yet the "article" goes on a practically dissertation-length gossip angle about the "end is nigh." He attempts to thread a thesis throughout it, but fails to. He randomly chucks in "AI," but fails to actually have any kind of thesis about why people are "leaving."

He tried to spin Alan Dye leaving for Facebook as some massive issue and design failure at Apple (implying wrongly that Tim Cook does not care about design). People instead reacted both internally and externally out of Apple excitement for Steve Lemay to take over -- whether it s because they "hated" Alan dye, or because they're simply excited for Steve Lemay given who he is, what's he's done, his philosophy of UX.

Even more interestingly, something actually factual that all of us can verify (majority of people excited for Steve Lemay) is only given 2 sentences in the article 1/2 way through. It then returns to hysteria for another (what feels like) 50 paragraphs. Think heavily on that.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Gurman's constant gossipy bullshit. No one ever holds him accountable for when he's wrong, and people treat everything he says as fact. Every time someone takes a shit he basically pretends it's either 'a new beginning' or 'the end of the world.' Can he please shut the fuck up already?

All of us on this planet, including Apple employees, already have enough issues in this world. His constant hysteria is nauseating and false and unhelpful. It only seeks to make him richer from his articles.

Fuck him.
Plot twist: RockRock8 is Gurman’s mom

Eh. Anyone who makes a career decision based on what they read from Gurman or others like him are probably employees apple doesn’t need, anyway.

Not sure if anything has changed, but back when I was designing chips none of us ever read these sorts of things. Anything we read on-line or in the magazines back then was either completely wrong or very out-of-date. I saw wrong information about CPU release dates, prices, sales quantities, block diagrams, personnel moves, etc. Hardly anything was accurate. And if someone theoretically started a rumor that Fred Weber was quitting or something, I’d just ask him.
