Silly Season: iPhone 17 and foldable rumors

Until they can make the phone as durable as one without a fold and the fold 100 percent undetectable when open, and cost no more, I have zero interest.
I think a lot of people (including myself) are in that boat with you. With all the problems attempting to achieve any of these three goals, let alone all three at once, I expect folding phones to remain a niche item.

A corner-case outlier, I would like to have a 3-piece phone: a storage unit that would always sit in my pocket, an iPhone 1 sized logic unit that I could tote around and use for actual calls but not much else, and large attachable touch screen unit (sized to my preference) for doing internet stuff.

Pretty much.

Foldable phones is a solution looking for a problem.

Fact is, I can fit a screen "big enough" into my pocket for that use case. If I need bigger, its going to be awkward to hold in the situations I'd use a phone at which point I pull out the iPad or laptop which has far more processing power, memory, a real keyboard, etc.

If I want a bigger screen, we're only a few years off it being displayed on some AR sunglasses which will enable a 180 degree field of view augmented reality display... at which point the shitty folding screen idea becomes kinda.... shit-tier...

I just don't see the point, especially if it impacts the cost or durability of the device.

Kinda like lambo doors. They look neat, but there isn't any practicality for them.

Worse than Lamborghini scissor doors.

They actually work pretty well in a confined space because the car is so wide - you can actually open them without needing 3 parking spaces of width.

This foldable display shit? NO use.

Wishful hoping... but I wish Apple would get rid of the new camera button that they introduced with iPhone 16 pro. I've turned it off on mine because I kept accidentally clicking it.
I like everything else about the phone , but have not gelled with the camera button at all. TBH I find it gimmicky.

I tried so hard to use this, but the half-touch stuff is too easily triggered so I am always changing settings (i know i can disable that, but..)…

Here’s how they SHOULD have done it. Move the button all the way to the right (bottom) of that edge. Have it stick out a little bit. Half-press focuses/locks AE/AF, full press shutter. Like a camera. If they were worried about it clicking in your pocket, they can use capacitive sensors to make sure a finger is on it. But camera makers figured out how to make this work ages ago.
