Tesla unveils supposed “robotaxi.” Or is it “cybercab?” They can’t seem to decide

I recently missed a turn due to GPS directions at a confusing intersection, but that wasn’t the entire reason. Once I realized the mistake I could have made the turn but then realized that would have required a quick maneuver going between 2 autonomous vehicles. Fuck that. I have full confidence that if the vehicles had human drivers it might have resulted in a few middle fingers at worst. Between 2 autonomous vehicles it probably would have resulted in some physics defying accident and a national news story I don’t want to be a part of.

Why not build your own fleet and rake in the revenue yourself during the early phase as a sales pitch, kinda like you say?

Another great question. I think Tesla’s reported margins are around 14 or 15% on cars? If Elon is so sure that when I buy 20 or 30 of these things I’ll rake in the big bucks on them, wouldn’t it make more sense for him to operate a fleet of thousands of these things instead of selling them? Or do a deal with Uber or something, and get a cut of the revenue that way, if he doesn’t feel like building out that sort of business.

This whole thing is going to turn into a pyramid scheme. “get your friends to buy a few of these and operate them as a fleet, and you’ll get a percentage of your downline”

Agreed. Musk was basically claiming this as a reason to pay for FSD a few years back.

The more I think about this, the more I want to short sell TSLA.
The trick is figuring out when to short sell. Absurdly overinflated market cap for a poorly run automobile company of its size and sales figures, but who knows when the irrational exuberance will dissipate.
