The Obvious Voting-Rights Solution That No Democrat Will Propose

A lot of Republicans are calling the new voting rights bills a “federal takeover” of elections.

Have they ever read the constitution? Article I, Section 4

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

Federal takeover LOL, suddenly they've lost the concept of both country and Constitution. Fucking idiots or preaching to idiots for some traction. But this is only till they manage to grab control at the Federal level then watch out, they'll never let go without a 2A remedy. :oops:

So, Election Day could be changed to Saturday if Congress wanted to. That would be an easy change that almost everybody would either support or have to be an idiot not to support. It would most likely increase turnout, and would definitely be more convenient. First Saturday in November is what I propose. Then, even if the right-wingers restrict early voting, most people will not be going to work (yes some ppl have to work Saturday but nothing is 100%), so it gives more people a chance to vote.

…and you’d have some group saying hey, that’s my day off! ;) …but it would still make a difference for anyone who cares if we are going to let democracy slip though our fingers while some Bozo somewhere claims depriving certain demographics from the vote is both fair and needed.

Shoot, I might make that argument when it comes to STUPID, who are really killing us now, but even that destroys the idea of democracy, which ironically in a way shows you it’s limits.

  • Democracies are only as good as those participating.
  • Democracies can destroy themselves though bad choices.
  • Even insisting on smart does not save you, because smart does not guarantee moral or honest…
  • The odds seem stacked against the human race.

This ruling was super shitty. The right wing judges said they can't force a do-over as there is too little time before election (IIRC, primaries). Yet the GOP took all of one week to come up with these racially inspired districts. One would think with months to go they could find a way to better draw districts that respects the voting rights of all.

This was the same way they handled the Texas abortion law. A law overturns 50 years of precedent, every lower court blocks it, and SCOTUS dumps a shadow docket ruling saying “nah go ahead and make abortion illegal for now. What’s the harm?”

They are clearly telegraphing their future decision on this. This buys them time to come up with a few dozen pages of nonsense legal jargon to further chip away at voting rights. They shouldn’t even be weighing in on these injunctions. They are supposed to be the slow, deliberative court. Not the instant reactionary court. The right-wingers within SCOTUS are drunk on their majority power and are ruining the legitimacy of the institution.

It’s totally discouraging how Americans via Trump fucked America so badly with his 3 SCOTUS appointments in 4 years. In one 4 year period this happened, the Court forever morphed into a bastion of democratic and corporate darkness.

It’s as if God does not love us, or finally so distressed with the results of his so called made in his image experiment went on vacation to GN-z11, and left the Deceiver to house sit while he drinks margaritas by the pool to forget how badly he screwed up.

…and there are some that will say God is punishing us right now with Trump, but that won’t be the corrupted, Kool-Aid toasting idiots. And the godless will say simple cause and effect, as we collectively reap what we have sewn, have allowed to be sewn. Maybe this human experiment was just not meant to succeed. 😢
 
When Georgia recently changed its voting laws, there was an uproar about how it would affect urban and suburban voters. The GOP lawmakers insisted it was all about security. Well, we now have some data, and there’s no question: the law makes it harder for urban voters and easier for rural voters. The “1 ballot box per county” is super convenient for those in small counties. It made the trip to drop off a ballot in more populous counties an hour-long drive round trip, and recall that many folks in cities don’t even have cars.

Most Americans don’t think the country functions as an empire, so yes “rubes”.

Being in favor of something when being asked specific leading questions on a poll isn’t an actual show of “support”.

Being told for decades through corporate media that this is a “problem” tends to lead…to people thinking something is a problem whether it’s true or not. Take a look at “illegal immigration” for one quick example.
 
Nope. The last thing anyone needs is more plastic. Digital ID's. Remote voting - end polling stations entirely. No long lineups, no standing out in the rain, snow or heat. Anyone who has a phone can use that along with their voting app to vote online. For those that refuse or can't afford a smart phone, ok, fine, here's your chips card - but, for those, we need to have cheap card readers installed in every library and Internet cafe, so everyone has hundreds of voting locations they can sign in and cast their ballot.

And, yes, we'll need to ensure we have good cyber security in place so the Russians can't hack the system. :) (get the Israeli's to design it) :)

Added perk - maybe you actually have all of your results the night of? :)
