It's so hard to tell these days and much of the time those who post them refuse to admit if it's AI, essentially tricking the viewer, and it feels pretty unfair for those of us doing the real thing. It looks stunning and amazing, just disclose it.

yeah...that's not cool. I'm pretty lax about most stuff happening, but at least have it done by a person, not an algorithm.

Cheaters are gonna cheat, aren't they? The guy who won some photography contest in a US state rural competition later confessed that it was AI, the woman who blatantly not only stole someone else's images and then pulled together composites to create what she claimed to be her own unique work ( and I think there was more than a bit of AI thrown in there as well).... etc., etc.

Someone accused one of my images of being AI and I found it flattering lol. I'll say though that I think some of those are beautiful and it's obvious that a lot of time and effort goes into them so why not simply disclose it with pride? I think people would be more than accepting.

Exactly! Some of these AI creations are amazing and fun to see. Someone on a photography site where I also hang out has been having fun experimenting with AI and his posted images are fascinating....but he always is upfront about the fact that yes, he typed in a couple or three keywords, got some interesting results, maybe did a bit of adjusting in whatever his photo editing program is, and then produced a final image. Absolutely no intention of deceiving anyone. Therein lies the difference...

An article in today's The Washington Post indicates how AI can be also used in abusive ways, such as in the world of pornography. Someone innocently, casually going online and sharing a selfie of himself or herself (especially the latter) may inadvertently fall victim to serious misuse of their image via AI, which turns it into something totally different......

To me, that image looks fake, or at least very manipulated. It's just too perfect.

Not porn, but in the show NCIS:Los Angeles, there was a story arc where one of the characters was being deep faked. Now it looked very real, but it was supposed to. Maybe just kind of a warning to us all.

I fully expect politicians to be the first real victims.

Right, because for example the women already getting their likeness used in porn without their consent do not count as real victims...

Exactly, Pumbaa! This is precisely what the article in the WP discusses..... Nobody cares about some jowly old male politician; it is many women and young girls whose images are on the internet, women who had or have no clue that predators can and will scarf those images up and then misuse them in an entirely different context who are the real victims.

Well, it could be argued that we had a deep fake president for four years.

AI of San Francisco. Funny, I see some of the bigger accounts on IG with images that look just like this. As a photographer (especially in this area) this is deflating.
