Trump's Trade War

*gasp*. You must be too young to remember SCTV (Second City Television). Where a number of Canadian Actors/Comedians got their start:

SCTV Alumni

Edit - and: Canadian Walk of Fame

"The Great White North" was a regular skit that Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis played the McKenzie brothers. They'd drink stubbies of Molson Canadian, eat back bacon (cooked on a Coleman camp stove) and ramble on with flawed but hilarious opinions. :)

Hoser was their favourite insult. It could have been (and likely was) a drinking game for how many times they used it each episode. :D
Come for the Geddy Lee vocals. Stay for the barrage of "Hoser" insults.

Thanks to you all I learned a Canadian insult 😄

And here we go...

Acer Laptop prices in the U.S. are set to rise by 10% from March 2025, commented CEO Jason Chen in an interview with The Telegraph. Chen states that the price hike is a direct result of the Trump administration's incoming tariffs.

"We will have to adjust the end user price to reflect the tariff," Chen said to The Telegraph. "We think 10% probably will be the default price increase because of the import tax. It's very straightforward," the Acer CEO continued.

The decision to increase prices was reportedly confirmed last week, with the Taiwanese tech giant remaining unaffected by tariffs on products that left China before February. Therefore, stock hitting U.S. channels afterward will be subject to increased tariffs.

Silly Eric, no one cares about the stock market when families cannot afford eggs.

Even Fox News can't escape Trump's reality.

It shouldn’t even be called a “trade war”… this is just a dumb move by a dumb man, convinced his presuppositions about tariffs are correct. They aren’t, and you could explain why to any reasonably-intelligent second grader.

Arbitrarily enacting tariffs on our allies is a plain stupid move. Nothing more.

No, it is not. Pull your head out. ShitGibbon's goal is to facilitate disaster capitalism so that his stupidly-wealthy sponsors can sweep in and implement the new feudalism. In that context, it is genius.

He has no interest in making the country a better place, and those of us who did not vote for him are becoming increasingly angry at those who did, especially the ones saying "oopsie."

Fun story, my father was at a German bank recently to invest some money.
They recommended Goldman Sachs, but my father wasn't intrested in a US bank. The investment manager swore that with Trump at the helm it would get better.
I'm glad my father did not pick this option. Unfortunately, I wasn't part of that meeting, otherwise I would have told that investment manager:
  • I'd be really interested where he gets his news from, because I heard exactly the opposite, including coming from Nobel prize for economics winners.
  • Either he is really badly informed, or he doesn't care if his customers lose their money.
  • Almost every time someone who worked in finance and turns out to be a real dick, they worked for Goldman Sachs before. I don't know if being a psycho is part of their job description or if they turn people into psychos in that company.

We know that the genius isn't his, if that is the plan. That would have been orchestrated by Putin.

And to those that would suggest Trump's visage is an act - he isn't that good of an actor. :D

Edit: Oh - and I hope Ontario follows through with its threats and turns the power off that it's exporting. Not just increase the cost of it.

Now he's threatening a 250% tariff on Canada almost immediately, as they threaten a 100% tariff on Teslas.

Nobody wins in a trade war, it's too easy for any other country to counter it with no effort at all, no matter how small they are. Trump is such an idiot.

Yesterday several US mayors living on the border came to Canada to talk to our mayors, trying to figure out something because without us their economy is very bad, and for our border little towns is the same .
They came all dressed in red and white and with signs like this
Adopt us.jpg

BTW it make me queasy seeing Teslas around
Cybertrucks, I can't stand them. Second time they park near my car.
It's an involuntary feeling

I see cybertrucks every now and then and they are so embarrassingly ugly that it's hard not to point and laugh. When you walk behind one in a parking lot it looks exactly like a dumpster with wheels.

Trump won Kentucky by 30 points and now they're crying about losing Canadian business, they can wallow in this.

This has real big "stop punching back" energy. I’m not really sure who thought that retaliatory tariffs weren’t going to be aimed for maximum impact after the last time this was tried?
