General US completes withdrawal from World Health Organization

If the midterms could hurry up and get here that would be great.

I am surprised by your optimism about the Mid-Terms... Being a pessimist at heart, I am not holding out hope for them, because they will either be A. Not allowed by the Orange National Embarrassment, or B. Not f'd around with so much that they will be declared null-and-void.

The only think polling worse than Trump is the Democratic leadership, people do not believe they're doing enough and they're 100% right. We have never been so underrepresented as average Americans, Republicans and the rich are sticking it to us and Democrats are just sitting back and letting it happen.

We need fresh blood and those willing to fight, I believe the American people will get behind those who do, Mamdani is a great example of that. If the current establishment runs without any changes apathy will win the day as nobody will be incentivized to get out and vote.

I understand why you want that, but a D Congress wouldn't have prevented this. It was done by EO.
Understood, in fact this congress is essentially impotent as we are now ruled by Trump and not our representatives. I still hold out hope that anyone (from either party) will come to their senses for the sake of the American people though. With the right people in there they can impeach this monster, though I don't hold out hope that anyone in this weak ass Democratic party would do it.

The one thing Democrats have always been is weak and even I don't want to vote for any of the current establishment.

For the record, as a middle class citizen in this country paying for my own healthcare and running a business that relies on tools from China and other tariffed nations, I've never had a president more directly responsible costing me tens of thousands more dollars per year. But the billionaires get their tax breaks so at least there's that. I hope this asshole president feels it when he keels over in the end.

And therein lies the problem, IMO. The power of the Executive branch, particularly EOs, has been misused to the detriment of the country. Leaving the WHO is not in any of our best interests, despite the organization's miscues during the COVID-19 pandemic. God help us when an existing virus mutates to become more virulent or a novel pathogen appears.

And Trump's invoking of tariffs by EO on a whim to punish or reward other nations, including allies, has rightly been characterized by economists as dangerous, though I bet Trump and his sycophants have profited handsomely through advance notice about actions that caused major market swings.

The benefit is that if the next president is not an insane maniac they'll undo it all in less than an hour with a pen on day one. If/when that happens I think we'll see something like a bright new beginning for America as it awakens from such a dark time.

While it's true that the law is not self executing, there are a lot of institutions at the State level that Trump doesn't have control over that would make screwing with the actual process of voting enough to offset the backlash extremely difficult if not impossible. It's also a matter of size. The USA is massive both geographically and in population. That doesn't mean there aren't other things they could try, but keep in mind smarter dictators in power for longer have lost that power to referendums and democratic action (e.g. Pinochet). While it's true that the USA is struggling in a basic test against the most braindead fascist assholes we could have imagined, to quote a Ukrainian soldier:

That doesn't mean stupid people aren't exceptionally dangerous. But their thuggish stupidity is reason for optimism (not complacency).
