Would you be interested in an Apple search engine?

I wonder if wild boar bacon is a thing. They sell wild boar meat here (no I haven’t tried it… yet)… not a giant leap from wild boar to warthog really is it? (Is it?) nope. Not a giant leap.
Since there is no Apple search engine yet - Ask Obelix, he seems to be a boar expert.

Warthogs are way prettier, though.

Not sure if it is boar, but apparently free range pigs that eat acorns make some tasty bacon. Never tried it and finding it hard to imagine it being better than regular bacon.

I have a coworker who likes to bow-hunt for boars. I should ask him the bacon question.

I'll go with whoever provides the best "unsafe" image search experience.

That won't be Apple. I could probably find more questionable content on a Disney search engine.

It would be even better if DuckDuckGo (and the masterminds behind it) were to merge with the Apple search engine…

If DuckDuckGo merged with Apple or any of DAFTMANGO (Disney-Apple-FB-Twitter-MS-Amazon-NF-Google-Oracle), then I would quit using DuckDuckGo.

DAFTMANGO

At this point people are just picking mega-corps that have a convent first letter in their name to make a 'better' acronym to be angry about.

Given where DDG sources most of their results outside the info boxes at the top of the page, there are worse fates than Apple buying them out.

For context: I use DDG all the time - like literally default on all my devices, maybe once every few months I'll use the !gi bang to get a better image result, but otherwise I'm all in on DDG.

So is it only apples, or other fruits? Citrus varieties? Mangos?

I'm not even going to start asking about leafy green vegetables ...

Why though?

Because I want a search engine, not an advertising vehicle where I’m the product.

I don’t see why this seems so unusual.

OK boomer.

Seriously, tho: who consciously wishes for mega-corporations to be a thing?

I’m lost. What are you saying?

And Fats is what we become when we bring home too much bacon.

How can there be too much bacon.

On search engines, I'll stick to Duck Duck Go and hope that Apple sticks to its long, long list of bugs and feature requests.

The separate app components after unbundling of iTunes, for instance: the new apps at least in desktop mode --and some of them as iOS aps as well-- all leave much to be desired, and they still have the look and feel of someone having said "ok we're getting so many complaints about bloat in iTunes, someone go in and cut the pieces apart and rechristen them."
Yeah, so done, done, done and done... and by the look of the pieces since, how long did it take, a week? They were turned out in a half-assed way. You can't even shrink Books to a mini player for audiobook play on your desktop, in Catalina at least. Absurd and inelegant, so unlike the earlier Mac applications.
But if Apple want to bring a search engine that doesn't meanwhile expand Google's knowledge of our every wandering thought, great. Just hope they haven't been robbing Apple's application staff that was already on board. They were already spread too thin if you ask me.

The only thing more ridiculous than saying “ok boomer” in the first place, is saying it to someone in their 30s.

DDG results are from a combination of Bing and Yandex. The info boxes (eg if you search for “noodle soup” and get specialised recipe boxes or whatever) are from their own scraper but the general results are not.

Also, if you hate being advertised to, Apple buying them would probably be an improvement. DDG has to make a profit still and used ads to do that.

Apple already offers a bunch of internet services and people pay for those services. I see no reason they wouldn’t approach this the same if they did it. Maybe a basic mode for free and iCloud/Apple one sub to get more features.

I don’t think they will do it, though.
