WWDC 2025

There’s a new AV1 software encoder plugin on Tahoe. I would guess that’s a sign that hardware AV1 encoding is coming to M5 and A19.

So apparently the clipboard manager in Tahoe is limited to an 8 hour window. That’s a little disappointing to me. It seems quite a small window and I’d prefer a number of entries as a limit, rather than a time.

I like the time thing. Stops The Man from seeing what was on my clipboard if they confiscate the computer. Something like that.

How is Apple handling the molasses feeling input lag when recommending at least 30 fps for MetalFX Frame Interpolation? FSR/DLSS FG both recommend frame rates over 60, and even then have antilag/reflex technologies to help things along.
They're handling it probably by ignoring the problem because nobody has a clue about gaming at Apple.

In about 6 years they'll realise that frame-pacing and input lag are actual things if you want to run anything beyond turn based RPGs or crappy mobile gaming trash, and probably give up.

I'm not sure if this has been metioned or not...
macOS Tahoe adds a new disk image format (ASIF), which is primarily meant to reduce the bottleneck of VM disk images:

Is it me, or have slow-mo and time lapse disappeared from the camera app in iOS 26?

IIRC, you have to swipe to see more options, though they may be hidden elsewhere.
I'll look again in the morning. I've never needed those settings before, but we have a cereus night blooming cactus, and three buds opened tonight. Now I'll have to find a way too speed it up.

A maxed out Macbook Air (32GB/2TB, upper-bin SoC) is $700 (39%) cheaper than a maxed-out iPadPro (16GB/2TB, not nanotextured). The iPadPro has a slightly larger (in pixels: 7.5%) display, which is certainly not enough to justify the difference in price. Of course, the touch screen, along with 5G, is definitely a touch above the MBA, though, to get the most out of it, you would want a Pencil 2.

For the difference in price, I would like to be able to do more with the iPadPro than it is presently capable of. The MacBook does allow me to side-load things like Inkscape and Gimp, which are pretty decent tools for basic use, and the Apple productivity apps are definitely better than the iPadOS versions. If the Pro offered me a little more, I would consider it a practical purchase. But I still cannot build practical programs on it.
for me this misses the value proposition of the ipad, an entirely subjective one for me albeit!

when i read a book on the couch in the evening, it’s the ipad that i reach for. want to mark up some architectural notes in draw.io …. it’s the ipad. mind mapping the functional and technical requirements with a client… ipad.
editing photos or videos… the experience is vastly superior (for me) on the ipad.

what i’m getting at - yes you can get more Ram on a macbook air and it is 700 bucks cheaper. however this update for me at least brings the ipad (with a keyboard) closer to a mac experience while still preserving all that i love and that makes an ipad different from a mac from a workflow perspective. i appreciate that this is a very subjective opinion and others have different experiences!

i agree though, the lack of true python, c# and java native development capabilities is still limiting. my personal workflow is tending towards mac studio at home (main workhorse) and then ipad on the go. i just remote desktop and find that that workflow meets my needs :) it also works great for coding
