X sues advertisers for “illegal” boycott

It looks like Elno has scored a point in his battle to make his cesspool drip all over everyone.

One target of his lawsuit, the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, is a nonprofit group formed for the purpose of protecting advertisers from exposing themselves to sponsorship of harmful content.
GARM was set up in 2019 after the Christchurch New Zealand Mosque shootings, where the murderer livestreamed the shooting on Facebook. Following that, brands’ faced issues where their ads were placed next to illegal or harmful content, the group said in a statement. GARM said its group reduced such ads from 6.1% in 2020 to 1.7% in 2023.

(x CEO) Yaccarino … said, “They conspired to boycott X, which threatens our ability to thrive in the future,” she said of the GARM members, adding that the loss in advertising dollars placed the company “at long-term risk.”

Yeah, blame your problems on someone else.

At this point, GARM does not have the resources to contest Elno's action, so they have suspended operations. Which is, where have I heard this term before, a sort of weaponization of the legal system by a billionaire. If you have money, all you have to do is sue somebody and they will be swimming in debt before they can even respond. This is a thing that needs to be fixed.

X filed the suit in the Wichita Falls division of the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and the case was assigned to Judge Reed O'Connor. As mentioned earlier, O'Connor is overseeing the Media Matters case.

Media Matters complained about
O'Connor having owned stock in Tesla … O'Connor in April denied a Media Matters motion to delay discovery until its motion to dismiss is resolved …

As Georgetown Law Professor Steve Vladeck wrote on Tuesday, X's "boycott" case "was filed not in Dallas, or Fort Worth, but in the Wichita Falls Division—where it had a 100% chance of being assigned to Judge Reed O'Connor."

"Court shopping" is another flaw in our legal system.
