Probably alone in this but I am really only interested in macOS. The lack of rumours is either great in terms of maintaining suspense, or terrible in terms of there being nothing to leak!

You're not alone. The only Apple products I own are Macs. Otherwise, I would pay Apple no mind. I only care about new Mac announcements and macOS. Assuming Gurman is correct, then macOS Alcatraz will be a maintenance release, and the 15-inch MacBook Air is the only Mac hardware release.

I'm also curious about any advances with Metal, ray tracing, new Mac game announcements, security enhancements, and other interesting features for macOS Death Valley. I just don't need to watch the dog and pony show to find out. If I thought there was a major Mac reveal, then I'd be all-in, I'm just not expecting that. Any interesting Mac news will be highlighted by Mac-focused websites and channels, where it won't be overshadowed by the fancy new headgear.

Have your daughter take a video of you while using it and share it with us. My nephew got the Meta VR headset from Santa for Christmas. When he's got it on his head it's amusing, because he looks like an idiot, randomly grasping at things that aren't there while twirling in circles.

Macworld has an article entitled "With another boring update on the way, does Apple care about macOS anymore?". What this dunderhead doesn't realize is that this is exactly what Mac users have been asking for. We want another Snow Leopard release to fix the bugs. Stop adding features that don't significantly improve the core experience. macOS is a mature product, it should behave like one.

A "boring" iteration of macOS is bad for bloggers, rumor merchants, and hokum peddlers. It's good for users, macOS could use a breather, which is what I hope Apple provides. "No New Features" is the headline I'd most like to see.

I do agree with you that many people would love a stability focused release of macOS, but one thing the article misses, as do many bloggers, YouTubers, is the fact that most features end up on all platforms. There really aren't big iOS, iPad, macOS releases (unless there are big UI changes). Apple creates features with the goal from the outset of rolling them to all platforms.

Around about '03, I was nosing around the eastern satellites looking for wildfeeds when I happened upon one of an Apple event of some sort. I switched my tube TV to wide aspect to make it look right and watched Steve spin out his RDF in real time. It was novel, but I doubt I would do that sort of thing again (all the C- and K-band wildfeeds are digital now, so the ten-foot dish just creates a shady patch in the back yard). I usually do some other thing that morning and read the full details after.

Could be! I wouldn't be surprised at anything at the moment. I seem to recall there was a shakeup at Macworld and I'm guessing many of the writers are people who write for multiple outlets and are primarily pc users.

Indeed. Gurman’s main ploy is to predict all possible outcomes at differing times. Concerning the Mac Pro, he has predicted that it both would and wouldn’t have replaceable ram etc. constant contradictions.

I would welcome a consistent annual upgrade of desktops, so an M2 Ultra based studio would be great.

I'm pumped and really looking forward to Apple's entry into AR. There're so many potential applications out there that are ripe for snagging by Apple with a well designed product and suite of apps. I think they'll do well bringing the tech to both commercial and personal markets.
