A case for Trump supporters

There are a number of northern states that are mostly white but that formerly voted Democrat most of the time. With union jobs going away, and Trump appealing directly to racial animus, some of those states could flip red in 10 years too. That being said, I don’t think it will be enough to overcome a blue Texas.

The Dems have a problem there though... Philadelphia for instance. The Inquirer just ran a piece on how the turnout while full on blue in Phila of course, was not what was expected.

The Dem's problem is NOT about their messaging. It's about managing to get stuff done despite a red Senate that loves to throw up roadblocks on spending until they have the House and can put tax cuts through again and figure the money will come out of social contracts. It's why progressives are starting from the ground up and winning local races for town councils, school boards, dogcatcher... Dems' star crazed fixation on the Presidency is not enough and is starting to be not enough to guarantee good turnout in urban areas. Food for thought... but are the Dems hungry yet?

COVID is a good universal measure of logic applied, because it still affects those who at least perceive a benefit from the rest of the repulsive stuff that had been going on.

I'm exactly talking about shit like this. Rand Paul is so irresponsible it is insane. My aunt had COVID in April. She nearly pulled through. I'm worried that by now *her immunity faded out and she could get it again. Then I see this supposed doctor of medicine who cannot comprehend the idea of transient immunity and my mind is just blown.

He seems to have forgotten “do no harm.” He should have his license pulled.

Agree they just need to get things done, but the problem with their messaging is it's coming largely from the Republicans while the establishment democrats and progressives are busy having a sissy slap fight.

From across the Atlantic, I must say that I have been absolutely gobsmacked - for it beggars belief, not least when the public good is taken into account - at how the action of wearing a face mask in a public space - especially an enclosed public space - has become so politicised, and such a political statement, in the US, dressed up as personal (hence, private) choice versus public compulsion.
And from the dummies it's my liberty to do whatever they want. If there are enough of them, it's a very dismal outlook for the future on this side of the pond. 😣

I’ve pondered the possibility that there is a serious yet to be put into the books mental disorder that gets triggered when certain people can’t see other people’s faces. It’s only in the current mass circumstances that it gets triggered. It causes a serious panic.

And this fool too:

This guy has no idea what he's doing and it's so laughable. He's a fucking neuroradiologist. I know he went into policy, but while he's a well-cited well published radiologist, he has no track record in policy. His scared backtracking with RT and this shit just reeks of incredible incompetence. You need not to be a genius to be able to recognize this.

(His original tweet is the first I've ever reported.)

So Republicans continue to be the party of “I got mine, so F- y’all.” The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I like to refer to AFCW ...

"The central message of Buddhism is not every man for himself ..."

Hmm, maybe. 😜 Seriously, I do see a huge issue with Mask hostility and blame Orange Cheeto, but it is also that masks represent this crisis, and illogically a hope that ignoring COVID will somehow hasten it going away and...I"LL GET MY JOB BACK!

It was great to see Biden take them to task today, he is very much the adult in the room while Trump continues to act like a petulant child.

I could just as easily post a bunch of videos of looters with the headline "76 million voters chose looters". Would that make it true?
Depends, can you prove those looters were specifically Biden supporters? If Biden voters actively endorsed looting, and truly understood why such looting took place.

In this case the reporter went out of her way to ask 45 supporters specifically, if they knew what socialism was & why Biden is called that.

So you just meant just "those" 45 supporters. The entire point of this thread is to call out the blanket statements we all like to use on both sides.

I would argue with the reference to PRSI, this is a very broad example of many 45 supporters, especially the ones we've actively heard.

Which is who I mean. These are individuals we often see, these are the individuals in 'million maga marches' attacking people, taking BLM signs legally hung on a building, screaming the election is fake & they want only "legal" votes counted.

When I juxtapose these events it's only to make a bigger point and not meant to choose one side over the other. While 99.9% of the BLM protests are peaceful, there are still those who want to cause trouble, just as is the case with Trump supporters.

However, I would just say that these people do not represent the entire constituency as a whole on either side and I'm hoping at some point we can find some middle ground. I get that's not a popular stance here at this site but I think it's the best path forward once Trump is finally out of the picture.

I do believe the more radicals on the right will eventually tone down (we're seeing it now with their forced exodus to Parler for example) and hopefully that will pave the way for us to look for areas where we agree.

There's no way to not make this come out harsh, but I think "there's a bunch of idiots in this country" used to be used an almost a playful way, but Trump exposed that there are a lot more than we used to joke about and they're quite dangerous.

Go straight to about 1:40 and this is before he won the 2016 election. His supporters haven't changed.

Trump‘s supporters cannot control their anger? What are they angry about? Please tell me. And “being called dumb for supporting Trump” just doesn’t count.

Let me know if you figure it out, Trump has some sort of spell on people. I have friends I can no longer even associate with and I've always been able to maintain relationships with them (being in different parties) before.

I'm sort of in that situation with a good friend, unofficially. I try to avoid politics with him but even when I acknowledge his viewpoint he doesn't really see it as a common ground and just wants to drone on further. Before the first debate that I didn't even really want to talk about he started with the "hiden Biden" schtick to which I quickly steered the conversation into another topic. Since then I haven't even really wanted to talk to them just because they can't get the clue I don't want to talk politics and especially not with their Trump style overbearing.
