Alan Dye leaving Apple for Meta.

It's the perfect gift for the person who wasn't beat up enough in school.

Supposedly Apple will be releasing their own version of these …

How long will it take to get the tech down to indistinguishable from normal glasses?
I think the thing is they will all have to be transparent about it, even the Meta glasses flash to let those they're looking at know when they're recording.

John Gruber is now claiming he has sources (unlike previously, where he asserted without even saying a source told him so) informing him that Jony Ive dislikes Liquid Glass.

I did not like that Gruber kept making these WILD accusations that Jony Ive hates Alan Dye and his leadership/work, given that:

1) Jony Ive assigned Alan Dye to design iOS 7, and was the leader of that

2) Jony Ive promoted him to Human Interface leader in 2015

3) Jony Ive praised him as "having a genius for human interface" in 2015

4) Jony Ive left him in charge of Human Interface in 2019, and specifically praised him again

5) No criticism of anything since then, or even rumors of it.

Personally, I think it smells a little too much like BS, more like Gruber inserting his opinion and making educated guesses with what he hears. I've stopped listening pretty much to anything he has to say since he made up false claims that Apple made concept videos of Siri at WWDC (untrue).

That said, and most importantly, I couldn't give a flying crap what Jony Ive thinks about Liquid Glass. I'm not hating on Jony by any means, nor unlike most of social media, pretending that he doesn't have a talent for industrial design; but Jony Ive has no right to judge Liquid Glass.

First, he has produced nothing of consequence since he left to do random crap. Lot of yapping though at times.

Second, iOS 7 had the massive issue that buttons did not look like buttons. I did not like this, but I still appreciated that iOS 7 design was good. But this is a pretty fundamental part of HI that Jony Ive left out that was increasingly rectified after he went to do whatever he's doing

Third, Jony Ive hated skeuomorphic design (iOS 6 and Snow Leopard/Lion). That is a reported fact.

So I literally couldn't care less about what Jony thinks, given all of that and he's not even at Apple currently.

Someone asked: "you’ve mentioned it twice now. What makes you think that Ive hates Liquid Glass and Alan Dye? Little birdy?"

John Gruber replied: "Multiple little birdies. Also, just look at Dye's work post-Ive."

It's also unclear what John Gruber means by "look at Dye's work post-Ive," given that this includes their spatial operating system, which is not only highly regarded by all, but also won design awards -- AND is being copied by competitors.

I love liquid glass myself, so I really don't care what social media says. I am happy about Steve Lemay!
