Often times you only have to do paper work to opt out of a class action, and otherwise you are automatically in it.
Is there any reason one might choose to opt out? Just disagreement with the case?
Where do the funds go from the opted out individuals? Do they get redistributed among the remaining class action involvees?

You would opt out, typically, if you wanted to reserve your rights to sue on your own behalf. You would almost certainly recover more if you sue for yourself, though of course you’d have to pay an attorney or find one who would take the case on contingency.

If you opt out, that reduces the size of the class, so the total award would typically shrink by some small amount.

If you don’t opt out but don’t collect the funds, typically the settlement agreement includes a provision about what happens (e.g. the money goes to a relevant charity).

Thanks. Appreciate the details!
I don’t really think class action exists as a concept here in Denmark same way it does in the US

It’s a solution to the problem where each person’s injury may be small, but the sum of the injuries is large. An alternate solution would be to do “loser pays both sides’ attorney fees,” which is not the norm in America. But that has its own problems, including clogging up the courts, the danger of contradictory rulings, etc.
