I'm interested in your take here.

I read over at the other place (to my horror but not necessarily surprise) that Apple may be introducing advertising in Apple Maps with the 26.5 releases of iOS, iPadOS and MacOS.

This makes me very disappointed if indeed this is true.

I de-googled my services and in particular Google Maps because I DID NOT want to be tracked across apps or have my eye balls sold to advertisers.

I'm quite happy to pay a premium for Apple NOT to advertise which I feel that I do already with the price of an iPhone these days and all of the Apple services that I am hooked up to!

If this is indeed true, what alternatives are there that work as well as Google Maps and Apple Maps and do not embed advertising ?!?!

What type of advertising are you referring to?

All I have seen in Google Maps is where some businesses will have their logo shown vs a generic label. Wendy’s comes to mind.

I only ever use Waze so I'm used to it and they're pretty unobtrusive. It only shows up in a small section when the car is stopped and then disappears as soon as you move.

sounds like what apple is doing will be less obtrusive than that. It will show up in the “suggested places” part of the app, or when you search (e.g. search for “restaurants,” and the first search result will be sponsored.)
