So we’ve agreed nothing has changed. So the point in stirring up further animosity was…what?
I have a conservative coworker who said it's to distract from Hunter Biden's laptop. I shit you not.

Why is the onus on China to ignore and not the US to not provoke?
The US sent a carrier group to accompany Pelosi. THAT is the provocation with Pelosi as the distraction for the masses. She’s also 3rd in line to the Presidency, that’s a massive context to consider from the eyes of the international community (and by that I mean more than just the Five Eyes group we pretend are the “the world”).the onus? I suggested it was their option and didn't suggest it was any sort of obligation......they've chosen a different option, so it seems they feel there's a decided advantage for them to make the response they've made.....and certainly they've made Biden look a bit clumsy and ineffective.
And according to your own posts, the US restated it's unchanged position. That hardly sounds like a provocation.
Plus according to press reports, the administration actually tried to convince her not to go to Taiwan on this trip....Nancy Pelosi may be an elected official, and you may not like her views, but she's not the voice of "the US".
This really isn't a case of "the US" provoking anything, rather it's the action a private citizen....so what do you want? A more authoritarian restriction on US citizens stating their views when they disagree with the government's policies? Somehow I doubt you really want that.
China’s not very innocent when it comes to provocative actions in the South China Sea.The US sent a carrier group to accompany Pelosi. THAT is the provocation with Pelosi as the distraction for the masses.

Lol might want to look a little closer at the Uyghur story, and history. Hint: we trained them as a “moderate rebel” force just like the mujaheen. Operation Timber Sycamore is an apt analogy.China’s not very innocent when it comes to provocative actions in the South China Sea.
Why China's Actions in the South China Sea Matter to the U.S.
Conflicts between China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, in the South China Sea are about much more than energy and fishing resources.www.nbcnews.com
U.S. says Beijing's South China Sea 'provocations' risk major incident
The United States on Tuesday accused China of increased "provocations" against rival claimants in the South China Sea and said its "aggressive and irresponsible behavior" meant it was only a matter of time before a major incident or accident.www.reuters.com
Chinese leaders think they can do whatever they want without pushback. Now that the US is starting to push back, they act persecuted. Cry me a river.
And the way they act when anybody mentions the Uyghurs? They are going almost full Nazi with the treatment of them, but again, if anybody says anything about it, the truth-teller is the one “provoking” China.

Here is what Speaker Pelosi has to say about her trip to Taiwan:
(paywall removed)
What do you think she used to type the op-ed?You know what’s missing from that statement? Hunter Biden’s laptop. I’m just asking questions.
I think that’s the point. Nothing has changed anywhere. And since nothing has changed, why should we discontinue normal diplomatic relations? Xi knows there is an official relationship between ROC and US. That has never changed. So why now is he having hissy fits over it?So we’ve agreed nothing has changed. Ms. Pelosi, who headed to South Korea late Wednesday afternoon, reaffirmed U.S. support, praised Taiwan’s handling of the Covid pandemic and met with human rights leaders. At every moment she was also conveying an unmistakable message: Beijing can isolate Taiwan, but it cannot stop American leaders from traveling there.
