Drone Photography

Speaking of drones and the SFPD... they now have a fleet of drones prepositioned and ready to launch in problem areas of the city (I'm guessing areas of the Tenderloin, parts of the downtown and Union Square, the Mission District, Embarcadero, Sunset neighborhood, and more). An ex-SFPD photographer friend of mine was instrumental in getting that going.

When a call comes in of a crime in progress, a drone (or multiple drones) can be quickly sent out to assess the situation, take videos of potential suspects, follow suspects fleeing, etc. That can help the dispatcher craft a proper police response (engaging the victim(s), another unit chasing a get-away car, etc).

Yes, I've seen a lot on this and can't applaud them enough. It makes sense for them to get a visual onsite ASAP, I consider this one of the better use cases for drones.

As a local drone photographer, with more than 80,000 local followers now I would like to even assist where I can, even if it's just notifying my fellow drone pilots of how to avoid them, best practices, etc. (outside of the expected FAA regulations I mean). So please let your friend know I'm at their disposal if they should need. I tried reaching out to their Instagram but since they don't follow they likely never got the message.

This has gotten a ton of traction online and the DailyMail has asked me if they can publish it.

WTF? You were way nicer than I might have been. At least she reluctantly backed off. Too many of them won't.

And why don't they realize they will be made "famous" in a not so good way.

A lot of the feedback has been regarding the fact that I shouldn't have blurred her face, she had a mask on anyway but I figured it might go viral and didn't want to doxx her like that personally. I'm more interested in letting people see the context of what happened as opposed to outing this lady.

That said, I do get people who regularly come up and engage with me when I'm flying and am always happy to share what I'm doing as long as they're cool about it. To be fair to this lady she probably heard it buzzing around her home and I can understand how that would make some uneasy, really all she had to do was politely ask though.

Good for you, I wish there was more non-doxxing videos of that type of behavior. Today’s society seem more incline to promote retribution, rather than focus on how ridiculous the behavior is.
